Seriously?!?

A Tour of America (updated link - now it has all the stages)?!?!

Call me a killjoy spoilsport skeptic, but it smacks of this.

yeah. who is that guy anyways? and did you see the list of stages? the last two stages are Tahoe to SJ (230 miles) and SJ to SF (130 miles). or maybe those of km? guess I should pay attention to stuff like that.

I can't imagine, that a nobody PHD student with zero business experience can come up with the funding/sponsorship for the world's most epic bike race in 12 months.

it's very interesting at least to ponder such a possibility though. Throw enough money and TV coverage out there, and the racers will come.

I'll have to check out those stages, but going from Tahoe to SJ would be a net downhill of 6300 ft, hence why a 230 mile stage on that day would work.

Wow - an interesting undertaking, but I think it's a bit much. An average stage is 150+ miles... I remember a couple years back, the TdF had a 250 km (150 mile) stage and it took 8 hours and all the riders were complaining. Imagine racing 8 hours a day (or more!) for the better part of a month. Ouch! I suspect they'll have to cut down the daily mileage, but it would be awesome to see something like this come to the U.S.

Hmm, 4 of the last 7 Grand Tour winners are busted for doping and this guy thinks, "Let's have a 4-week stage race." Brilliant!
