Can't Watch
I am "watching" this NCAA basketball final the same way I "watched" the Superbowl... hands in front of squinted shut eyes, humming "lalalalala" to drown out the suspenseful scary sounds of Overtime.
Incidentally and unsurprisingly, this is the same way I watch horror movies or terrible movies like No Country For Old Psychopaths.
I don't even like basketball very much. Although I did like it when I was in fifth through seventh grades, my dad even got me a basketball hoop and installed it in the back yard so I could practice, but when I stopped growing and stopped improving with ease I lost interest. I felt incredibly guilty about it too.
Anyhow up till now and all this Game Stress, today was a nice and easy meld back into the daily routine of home. Played a bit with Kitty, tossed my hands up in the air over the daily What To Make For Lunch question and ultimately went to Raley's for an overpriced bagel with cream cheese, and headed to work where I worked on stuff and chuckled at the flyer for an upcoming engineering-type conference in Niagara Falls - the first thing the flyer mentions is that Niagara Falls is one of the most popular North American honeymoon destinations?! What does this have to do with an engineering conference? Then I headed to the Rec Center and swam. After a mere 5 workouts at the Santa Monica Swim Center, I feel spoiled for life and I noticed all the annoyances of our pool even more than before. It's a very warm 83 degrees. It's a short 25 yards. There are a lot of bandaids and hair clumps and weird remnants from kid swimmers laying/flowing around. I guess that's it, not much of a list (and at least we have real lane lines!), but still, I loved that Santa Monica pool!
OK, scary game is finally over, and even though I said I didn't care I am kinda bummed Memphis didn't win. I mean come on, what kind of school chant is "rock chalk jayhawk"?

do I sense a move to Santa Barbara in the future?
well, i didn't enumerate the downsides... largest of which is riding on the PCH which is worse than what i imagine riding on I-5 would be like. also these two part-time workers and full-time goof-offs-i-mean-athletes can't quite afford the likes of beachside socal.
i think we'll be driving down to carson city's 50M pool in the coming weeks and months, though. that should help.
i had the same experience with basketball. i loved it until i was no longer the tallest kid in the class and didn't get to play center anymore at the tall height of 5 ft in 4th grade. oh well.
Hi,
I cannot believe you tried to ride PCH. I don't even like to DRIVE on the PCH when I'm in SoCal!
Missed VAC at the Santa Cruz Classic this past weekend, though I know you have moved on to bigger, faster, more prestigious races! Some images and comments: http://byron.servies.us
If any of you are going to be at Cat's Hill in May, good luck! I will be sorry to miss you, but it will be my turn to be down in SoCal at my college reunion, so I will have to say hello another time.

What to make for lunch??? How about PB&J? Or egg-fried rice burritos (if you have leftover rice) with veggies? Or tuna sandwich? Or a big ol' salad? Or turkey sandwich?
Oh, the possibilities! So bummed to hear you settled for a bagel from Raley's. :-/
Don't mind me, I've just been on a cooking kick lately.
As for basketball, I was never into it. Any sport where you had to shove people and get knocked around is simply not MY sport. The mass swim starts in tris almost made me not want to do it because I hated the kicking and clobbering. One of our gym teachers in middle school would always say to me "you should join the basketball team. You're tall."
So just because I'm tall I should play? Faulty reasoning, if you ask me!
I was always hounded growing up about playing basketball too, but winter was swim season so it was out of the question.
My current favorite lunch are burritos filled with egg, mushrooms, cheese, and avocado. They are too heavy typically for breakfast but I seem to always be craving eggs.
Courtenay almost never has to decide what to eat at any other time of the day - I do that for her - so she's totally handicapped for lunch. poor thing.
Mmmm, those lunch burritos sound good!! Mushrooms and avocados together all warm and gooey are the BEST.
COURTENAY YOU ARE SO LUCKY that you only have to think about what to eat once a day!!! Geez!
I finally broke down and decided today I will not go home for lunch today. No, I've been good long enough. Today...I go out for lunch. WOOOOO!!!
